Default Missing marine data

With a bit more searching around the OGIMET site I've found that the

The Met Office have done some checks and assure me that the data are
being sent as normal. The fact that OGIMET have the obs supports that.
The Met Office have suggested that it may be a data ingestion problem
at the US end but why it should just be affecting the marine data is
strange. OGIMET still have the hourly buoy obs this morning but nothing
is appearing on the US sites apart from a few obs at 0600z again this
morning. All very strange.

Seems to be working OK now Norman. Will it last?!

I've been in touch with the National Data Buoy Center in the USA. The problem
is at the US end. The Met Office have changed to a new messaging system that is
now the standard for data distribution but it has not yet been fully
implemented in the USA. It is currently being worked on so all the data should
re-appear in due course.

Thanks for that, still getting the odd report with long gaps inbetween, every 6 hours today, http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=62107 .

Mind you, didn't need any nearby buoy to tell me there was a swell today, some classic clean big waves. http://www.sennen-cove.com/todaysurf.htm . Rippy and rather dangerous on the north coast despite the offshore breeze. Beach car park nearly full with surfers vans at Perranuthnoe (near Marazion) mid morning today where the wave was more user friendly. The beach cafe (a lovely spot http://www.thecabinbeachcafe.co.uk/ ) was doing a roaring in cooked breakfasts.

If only it was a bit warmer.

Reminds me of the time when the SYNOP codes changed years ago on Jan
1st. Unfortunately for the US NWS, their computer programming was
done by outside contractors and they were changing suppliers on the
same date. The set who were being given the elbow refused to do anything
about the code change as they said it occurred after the end of their
contract; the incoming group refused to do any work on it until they
took over the contract. The result was no data for, I think, a couple
of weeks. That's what you can get when you contract out.
