Beautiful fast moving low stratus here in Haytor, far better than that nasty
clear bitterly cold polar air with snow showers a few days ago. Also look at NW Scotland I bet they are enjoying the lovely mild conditions topping up their water butts as a bonus watching the streams and waterfalls from rain and snow melt cascading off the hillsides. And then there is NE England with a wee breeze to ease the heat. But hey, the SE and London are in for a scorching day, so that's all right then! :-) Will -- http://www.lyneside.demon.co.uk/Hayt...antage_Pro.htm Will Hand (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) --------------------------------------------- |

It's March now and I've had enough of winter and would like some warmth. You seem very bitter, nothing like a good dose of 'weather envy' is there? Col |

Lots of folk were asking me how warm this weekend would be as they had heard the brilliant forecast! I told them not to hold their breath but hold their hats! Gale all night and currently here. MWS 34.5KT today so far and highest 10min WSW 41G60KT. Good old Pennine lee wave. Most things permanently tied down in these parts because of it! Ken Copley Teesdale |

clear bitterly cold polar air with snow showers a few days
ago. :-) Will I can't speak for NW Scotland, but in the North-East we have been being blown about all week, leading to many games of chase-the-empty-wheely-bin-up-the-street. Last night, coming home over the normally relatively chilly Dramlachs, the car thermometer rose to 11ºC, and my outside thermometer is currently reading 12ºC (which is probably overstated as the sensor is close to the house wall). All this has dashed my hopes of going skiing if/when the wind dies down. Skiing in high winds is not fun. You get loose snow and ice crystals blowing into your face. In these temperatures the snow surface will be melting fast, and I prefer not to ski on 'porridge'. If the temperature drops far enough again, it will freeze hard, and I don't much like skiing on 'boilerplate' either (though it's preferable to 'porridge'; if you fall in 'porridge', you fall slowly and your ski can dig in, so you are more likely to twist or tear or break some part of your anatomy; if you fall on 'boilerplate' you'll generally just get a bruise unless you career into a rock). But at least it looks like a good day for flying a glider because if the wind is strong enough there will be mountain lee wave to fly in. Anne |

Barely a breeze in the valley here, just crept above 10c and the sun is attempting to break through.
Rather pleasant actually. |

Brilliant sunshine here in Southend-on-Sea, a wee wind, but temperature climbing and currently 13.6°C. Wonderful, warm, sunny weather on the slopes of Dartmoor in the Teign Valley. Dunno what it's like up on the tops and quite honestly, with weather like this, who would?
