Default West Cornwall - Fine but interesting weather.

After a chilly clear night, min of 3.8C in Penzance, the thin patchy Sc quickly broke in the morning.

The temperature in the Spring sunshine rose steadily to 11C by noon, by which time the whole Cornwall was basically clear of cloud. The gradient wind was ESE, but a sea breeze set in on both coasts so by 13:00 it was NE at Camborne, and quite a stiff SE at Penzance. In fact @ 14:00:-

Camborne NNE 14mph (mean speed)
Penzance SE approx 15mph.

This led to rapid Cu development along the convergence zone, in fact it briefly looked rather threatening over the moors. The basically stable air meant it quickly spread out though, and drifted away westwards as the temperature (and sea breeze) dropped under the cloud. The spreading and dissipating cloud did affect Penzance for a while between around 14:00 & 16:00.

It didn't stop it being a lovely day on many beaches. I mean take a look, busy as many days in Summer http://www.sennen-cove.com/todaysurf.htm and http://www.sennen-cove.com/lbtdy.htm Lucky the lifeguards were on with low tide rips. There's a huge amount of sand, relative to normal, near the low tide mark at Sennen at the moment.

Day out at Porthgwarra tomorrow, then Bedfordshire (England) the day after. Still, back on the sleeper Weds night, so I'm sure I'll cope for 2 days.

Sea breeze here too.

It arrived fairly abruptly at 11:25 with a rapid shift in wind direction
from NNW to southerly and an increase in wind speed from intermittent
calm/1 mph to a steady 11 mph.

I was in the garden at the time and it felt distinctly chilly after the
previous calm conditions. The temperature fell back a bit too from 13.7C
to 12.4C before rising again to reach a maximum of 15.3C this afternoon.

Yes. I was quite surprised at the strength of the sea breeze considering the unstable layer appeared to be limited. It was briefly strong enough, just after the sudden onset, to give white horses in Mount's Bay. Windsurfers at Marazion were well pleased!

I meant to mention the eventual max, like you after the sea breeze period, was 12.9C. Looks like being at 2 or 3C warmer tomorrow, possibly more.
