Currently a sunny on the south coast (generally speaking), foggy on the north coast.
As a result it's now (11:15) near 15C in Penzance, just 9C at Camborne & St Ives in the sea fog. This is, as is typical in true sea fog, 1-2C or so below the SST. MetO currently forecasting the reverse situation. Forecast max of 19C for Camborne, 14C in the mist(?) for Penzance. (They have now changed the symbols to sun, but haven't changed the overview (Mist) Camborne would warm up very quickly if the current N sea breeze in that area turns SE, but I would have thought that unlikely. The north coast sea breeze is strongest in the afternoon, and given the temperatures now developing just inland, it would take a big increase in the gradient E - SE wind to prevent it. Sea breezes have already developed widely, SW at Plymouth, N at Camborne & St Ives, F1 ESE at Penzance. There's enough east in the gradient wind to source the air for Penzance from off the Lizard, rather than out to sea, hence the sun & warmth. Graham Penzance |

I'm not sure David Brain on 'Spotlight' was talking about the same South Devon coast on which I live! |
