Default Cool May's and following summers...

I was trying to see if there was any correlation between cool May's and
the following summers. As ususal no clear signal comes up, however,
quite often at least one of the three summer months comes up with above
average temperatures. I guess the odds on that statement coming true
must be pretty high, but of course we have to throw an El Nino into the
mix. 94/95 event shows some similarities with our weather and that had
above average temperatures for both June & July. All the same nothing
that would give me any confidence in in forecasting a summer.

1986/87 and 2009/10 are two that stand out for the cold winters, which I
guess is what the tabloids have latched onto.
