West Cornwall - Breezy, warm, V. High UV.
A bit on the breezy side, but no more than a F4. Sunny spells & patchy thin, mainly Sc cloud. The normal line of Cu developd down the spine. The difference in sunshine totals just inland and right on the coast this summer has been particularly great.
Out on Scilly there's been a fair bit of sun. As a result.23.1C on St Martin's - close to the highest of 2015. With the high humdity and patchy thin cloud, classic high UV conditions, 10.4! on St Martins.
Also pleasantly warm on the mainland. even on exposed coasts. 21.5C on the Island St Ives, 19.6C with the wind directly onshore at Land's End. 21.1 so far in Penzance.
I dashed off to Sennen this morning for a surf before the hoards arrived, to find the beach car park already full (at 09:30). The flagged 'safe' area was very small due to a 4-6' swell and ludicrously packed. The lifeguards will have to keep a close eye on things, it looked pretty rippy. Went to the harbour end & had a swim with the other half instead. No more Sennen until September, sadly.
There was a notable absence of lifeboat. It turned out that a boat had been reported missing NW of Scilly. The lifeboat had got 30 miles from Land's End before an 'It's all OK' was issued. Alls well that ends well. The harbour cam showed the lifeboat being recovered about 2pm.
