Following yesterdays's forecast by Darren Bent discussed above I have to
say it was one of the worst I have seen for some. Dry air, clear skies,
much fresher ...... my a*se!
Today was wall to wall solid cloud, quite humid with a few splodges of
rain - our first for 14 days. I suppose the temperature wasn't far off
the 22C he forecast but achieved from a synopsis which was clearly
unforseen yesterday morning.
Still the same now - must be a meteor shower forecast :-(

At one time they (the BBC forecaster) used to apologise when they got the forecast wrong and I vaguely remember it, but now in the days of at least two forecasts an hour the story will self amend, and more often than not, they get away with it, because no one really notices it - but they don't get away with it here!

The young lady (missed her name)presenting at the end of the London News
did kind of apologise actually, saying that they hadn't forecast the
gloom and rain as the front hadn't behaved. Fair enough.

I agree - it was a very poor forecast. The weather here has been the same as yours except the max, which was only 19.3. Of course, Phil Avery got it right last night with his "17 to 25" but then so did I when I forecast the sun would rise and it would get light. It did, but not very.

I heard Darren Bent say at the weekend the fone effect, when he meant
the fern effect.

Or even the 'fon' effect?
I don't think that there is any consensus as to how to pronounce that word, let alone the spelling.

Actually I think furn may be closer to it. I cannot remember whether
Fohn is Norwegian or German?

It is Föhn and the word is German. The vowel ö is similar to the "ur" in "burn", but with the lips closer together (in a sort of kiss shape !).

Fön without the h means hair-dryer in German, and originates as a brand name (like hoover for vacuum cleaner) copying the word Föhn.
