Default West Cornwall - Pleasant sunshine but unusually cool

It certainly looked summery yesterday afternoon http://www.sennen-cove.com/index.htm but the temperature was well down on where it should be, a maximum of just 17.9C in Penzance, followed by a very cool 8.9C last night.

It's set to be about the 5th or 6th coolest summer here since 1991. It's also been rather dull & now wet overall. It all started so well.

Still, set to get warmer, for a couple of days.

It did warm up a bit this afternoon, a max of 18.8C, with little wind & good sunny spells it was pleasant enough.

I missed a nice wave today, http://www.sennen-cove.com/index.htm . A small but clean Atlantic swell.

The SST is only around 16C, that's a chilly 1-2C below normal. At the end of June it was 17C, which was a good 1C above normal for that time of year. In a good summer the open sea SST can reach around 20C late August.

The cold anomaly hasn't remained constant, it has gradually drifted south through the summer, and is now well south (at least in the eastern N Atlantic) of where it was in June. At that time the cold strip ran toward the Hebrides, and Cornwall was well into above average SSTs to the south.

Min of +6.0C here . Great for sleeping with the window wide open. I'm rather
hoping the seas stay cool as that would make for a colder winter in the SW
:-) Selfish I know as I rarely go in the sea, not been in once yet this
year, prob. won't now either.
