What???? I think he's bloody awful. On the radio he's disorganised and gives the impression of not knowing too much.

Well would you believe it?

It seems to be the majority view here. What's 'your' opinion of Tomasz Schaffernaker?

The majority view in the hughes head is that no presenter, on any programme is good enough. Hence my comment.

In all honesty I really don't care, its a private business and not mine but the BBC and the left are seemingly intent on making it everybody's whether they want to know or not and that is what gets up my erm .. nose.

I think Tomasz Schafernaker is a smart lad who is using his job to highlight himself to the wider public by being ultra cool, hoping at the same time that he can move up the sticky pole of celebrity and move on from being just a "weather presenter".

At least his geography has improved such that he now knows that Nowheresville is in fact a place called Stornoway.

Excellent program and Schafernaker comes across well. Interesting that
forecasts are changing to suit the information-hungry generation with
mention of jetstreams and the bigger picture. Bill Giles always insisted
that in his time mention of the Jetstream would lose half his viewers
overnight, which I always thought was rather arrogant...basically saying
these things were for the trade only and no education of the audience was
necessary. The perennial over-emphasising of London and the SE of England in
forecasts was explained well. Tomasz is not as bad as some of his colleagues
in this respect.

Agreed. Whatever even one may think of him as a presenter of forecasts,
here I thought he was good.

Which was strange, given that the jet stream features prominently in US
forecasts. One wouldn't expect British forecasts to dumb down more than
American ones, but it seems that they do.

The link I gave was to a follow up piece to the main half hour programme: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b065tqyq#play
which I also enjoyed.

I partly selected the follow up since it featured the BBC's increasing interest in the Jet Stream which had been mentioned in another thread here.

Sixteen minutes into the main program Dr Helen Roberts discusses how the weather is chaotic, from a scientific POV. It is not just weather - climate is also chaotic, which explains why it is so easy for the deniers to argue against the science of climate change. Antarctic sea ice extent is a good case in point.

Cheers, Alastair.
