The Gloomiest August Bank Holiday I can seem to remember? There probably were worse but none I can recall.

I can remember at least one from twenty-plus years ago when an
ex-hurricane arrived, bringing very heavy rain.

Pressure anomaly for July has a high just south of Iceland of +12hPa
with a straight NE'y over the UK.
August had high of +6hPa over the Faeroes. UK was still under a NE'ly,
anticyclonic in NW but cyclonic in SE.
In September, the high had shifted NE to near Bear I. and there was a
low of -8hPa due W of Ireland and S of Iceland. A trough from that
extended E across Wales and E Anglia.

Got the data from

Yes that sunny patch after the rain is spreading East - should be here
by nightfall! People we know from round here have returned early from
camping on Bodmin Moor saying it's been so bad down there this past
week:-( Having said that it has been much more pleasant than expected
for my daughter's family in Christchurch who seem to have dodged most of
the rain and it was surprisingly warm apparently.

I think it takes a certain type of person to go camping on Bodmin Moor!

Not too bad right on the coast last week, as you can see http://www.sennen-cove.com/imaug15.htm Though temperatures were generally disappointing.

There's no picture of yesterdays depressing weather. Nor Saturday, which was bright & still with sunny intervals.
