Default Rare long wet spell for August in S.Essex.

Today is the tenth consecutive day of measurable rainfall for here.
There have only been two completely dry days in the last 15. Not all
complete washouts of course and sometimes pleasantly warm though often
cloudy. There have also been three murders locally in largely the same
period, unrelated to the weather though, I believe.

No rain here today and there have been 7 dry days out of the last 15.
Apart from the 23rd (when 45 mm fell), most of the rain has been fairly
light but it still has made the total mount up.

As far as I am aware there have no murders here locally for the last 15
days. In fact, the last trouble that I know of was of an 'altercation'
in the church a while ago. Other than Sid's bike being stolen from
outside the village pub a few years back (everyone still talks about
that) I think we have been murder free since I moved here in 2005 )

Just a few drops so far today, barely enough to damp the ground but it counts. Have the murders happened on darkened streets? It would make an interesting PhD project: Does the murder rate increase during wet, dull Augusts?

It might be that wet Augusts mean that families spend more time at home
together, which might lead to more murders resulting from people getting
on each other's nerves.

Without wishing to sound like Lawrence it's not much fun to see your
area where you have always lived degenerating. I would have loved to
live in Devon despite all the rain and we've had that here this summer!!

But there's perceived degeneration everywhere, Dave. Am possibly talking rubbish here but people in Devon probably think their area has 'gone downhill' in the past 20 years. It is a human condition to think the past was always better.

Like Nick said - no murders since 2005. There is either a murder or a
very serious assault every week here in this part of Essex. There's
downhill and there's downhill!

LOL well on dartmoor we have our tales of intrigue, doom and misbehavings
right back into the mists of time. But yes crime, what's that? Up here you
can leave your house open, your car unlocked and it will be fine 99.9999% .
We do get police notices from time to time of thefts in the area and I think
the two million pound plus homes have had burglaries over the years, so one
cannot be complacent. Local farmers have also been done over by rustlers.
But our neighbourhood watch was closed down 15 years ago due to lack of
activity. Lovely day today for a bit of sheep shagging ....

I saw that happen in south Manchester in the 1980s. Lovely neighbourhood as
a boy but then late 70s a lot of criminal gangs took advantage of cheap
housing and basically ran the area until early 2000s when eventually the
police cleared them out and they moved on. Now it is much better again with
nice families moving in. Hopefully in your area it is a glitch Dave. Devon
has its fair share of roughness (mainly in the towns) and I can tell you,
you don't argue with a bunch of real Devon boys on a dark night :-)
