I'm not advocating nationalisation in general. As soon as the banks
that were part-nationalised in what amounted to an emergency
situation are in a fit state to be returned to the private sector
this should take place. In fact the process has already begun.

Quite. I was wondering if anybody was going to pick up on that.
The original proposal was to re-privatise when we had reached break even point and the taxpayer wouldn't lose out. Just shows how desperate the Government are not to have nationalised banks.

I was always a working class lefty but when I met the middle class ones oh boy were they full of crap and distortions. I remember being told how the 'British' had started the first concentration camps during the Boer War. Why the British shamed Hitler and Stalin when it came to treatment of Prisoners or civilians come to that who had spoken their feelings.

Whenever somebody strongly identifies with one side or other of politics they always accuse the other of the one who are doing all the lying.
However if we take the of the expenses scandal as an example of the integrity of politicians we find that all 3 major parties were pretty much as bad as each other. So it is with lying. They've always done it and they always will. It's what they do.
