Much of the month has seen a succession of pretty big swells, and with the wind on the surfing beaches being generally not too strong, and frequently offshore on the north coast, there have been some really good surfing conditions.
Another big swell has just arrived. Sevenstones 15:00 6.6' 5 8 sec 17:00 10.2' 9 sec 18:00 14.6' 11 Sec With the big tides recently, the Cribbar at Newquay has been surfable near low water, when the reef break works. See http://www.itv.com/news/westcountry/...t-the-cribbar/ for pictures of 15-20' surf on 27th October. Also the boats are pulled way up at Sennen, the floodlit harbour just after high tide still look impressive http://www.sennen-cove.com/harbourcam.htm (19:10) Even in Penzance harbour, away from the waves, the recent tides were a good metre higher than the supermoon 'largest astronomical tides of the decade', 2 weeks ago. In fact, as the pressure was so high then, if it you hadn't got a tide table you wouldn't have seen anything notable at all. Might be all quiet weatherwise inland this weekend, but there'll be plenty of surf action still, with some warm sunshine even! Graham Penzance |

Graham Penzance Oh, the beginning of video clip at http://www.itv.com/news/westcountry/...t-the-cribbar/ show how the jet ski tows the surfer into position. It also serves as a rescue craft. Graham |
