Well you were in the cold air and with heavy precip lowering the wet-bulb
freezing level, it happens!
Going to be colder than expected in the south tonight too after the cold
front looking at the low values over Eire this afternoon.

Normally (based on 2 years up here) the Council are pretty good when
this sort of weather is expected. However this was clearly not forecast
as no sign of any gritters up here this afternoon.
The local snow line is currently around 450' asl. Complete cover here,
although just a couple of cm.
