Default Winter starts on January 1st

..... well that's a normal winter. Not ridiculously mild. Colder, with a
mixture of normally milder unsettled wet spells and the odd short colder
snap with snow in the Midlands and the North now and again.
Others seem to think there may be signs of something more wintry looming
in the weeks ahead .... but I couldn't possibly comment.
