Default West Cornwall - Very strong gusts after the front.

After a very wet but not particularly windy evening, there have been some very squally winds following the front.

In Penzance gust of 49mph (the wind is offshore) 66kt gust at St Ives.

16.4mm of rain in the 24 hours to 09:00. Briefly mild yesterday, max 12.2C, minimum of 6.5C last night. December rainfall was normal here, but it's been a very wet start to 2016.

(OT) Couple of humpback whales off St Ives recently, a very rare event. They've been hanging around so plenty of photos on the web. Still, large numbers of whale watchers has given tourism a January boost

My daughter was gutted she missed the Whales by 24 hours! She had a
great time though. Similar gusts here as the front went through just
after midday.

They were hiding when I went to look!

Bright, blustery day here today. A couple of very brief showers & good sunny spells. http://www.sennen-cove.com/index.htm . Around 8C much of the day.

Driving back after dropping the In-laws off at Bristol Airport at 09:00
this morning it was wild'n'windy. Especially around Junction 23 of the
M5. Loads of debris blowing around and it was hard to keep the car
within the lanes as the wind was so strong. Some pretty beefy showers too.

Things calmed down dramatically after Junction 29 and it was sunshine
shining through a crystal clear blue sky all the way home from then.

My maximum gust here was 29 mph at midnight so those squally winds
stayed well to the north of here. Not much rain, 5.7 mm for the whole event.

After a high of 11.5C at 3:22 this morning, the temperature has been
around 9C for much of the afternoon. There was 6.3 hours of quite strong
(for the time of year) sunshine.
