But Len they were *exceptional* spells. You just don't do proper cold in
normal winters there in Wembury.

+4.7C in Penzance in an offshore wind. 7/1/09.

195 air frosts (0.0) since 1991, 8 per year on average. None so far this winter.

The record low temperatures in Penzance during the last century were not in '62/63 but in January 1987. Penzance had a maximum temperature of -1.1°C on both the 12th and 13th of January 1987 with a minimum of -9.9°C in between. Just 14.6C colder than last night!

I assume this must have been an ENE drift right down the spine of SW
England, thus avoiding any warming by the sea.
