Well, after all the rain of the previous 30 hours (see earlier post) a simply glorious day here.
It's now 13:50 and there's been virtually unbroken sunshine since 10:00. The temperature is 13.8C, may rise a touch more. It reached 12.6C at some point overnight. The 'cold' spell here only saw temperatures drop to near normal, perhaps because the SST nearby is still around 11C, the highest I've ever seen in during late January. The air was soft, mellow and felt warm in the unbroken sunshine all afternoon. Such a nice change to the colder weather earlier this week. A surprisingly high maximum of 14.4C and 4.7 hours of sunshine today. The entire rain event yielded 9.5 mm and that brings the January total up to 91 mm. That is a little more than the average for the entire month. Today's sunshine has pushed the monthly total to 84.8 hours and at this rate this month could end up the sunniest January since before 2006. Last January recorded 105.0 hours. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Nearer 7 hours at near sea level as low cloud hung to the hill tops for about an hour after the clearance, which was about 09:30. http://www.sunrecorder.net/googlemap...serial=1000 5 . About 50 hours of sun up there so far this month, between 65-70 hours (an estimate) down in Penzance. Your 84 hour is quite impressive. Soft is how I'd describe it, despite a F4 or so breeze. Just lovely on the beach this morning, the cabin http://www.thecabinbeachcafe.co.uk/ was quite busy. Graham Penzance |
