The temperature at Valentia at midnight was only 11.0°C at a similar height (772 m).

It certainly rules out any possibility of skiing for the next week at Weardale.

Bruce,
GDF now shot down by over 7 degC in an hour to 8C, so there is / was a fault there. The link below shows the ski centre AWS, roughly 1800ft, has been around 8C throughout.

I bet some waters got in the works.

If that's a Vantage Pro AWS it's doing very well at that height, it must be one of the highest in the country.
