Default We might not have 2ft of snow but we do have 14°C!

The date record today is only 14.4C. Almost certain to go.

I think it may have already been beaten and by the most unlikeliest of stations.

Great Dun Fell is reporting 14.7°C at 0900 UTC, which kind of corroborates the
0800 temperature of 14.9°C. The wind is meaning 40kts from 230°. On the lee side of the Pennines you could get 16°C or higher I would have thought, although Leeming has only 12.5°C at the moment.

I think the ITV weather last night were implying fohns could develop with a 16C forecast for the Moray area. It's possible the date record could be beaten by a long way today, with some exceptional temperatures (20C would be doubtful, however!).

Hi, Bruce,
It could be correct, but for some weeks I have been thinking Great Dun Fell is reading rather high.
Current Copley 10.5C and it doesn't look like inversion conditions.
Best wishes

I make the 1000-500 partial thickness 553.6 DAM at 0000 UTC in the Camborne ascent, which is very high for the end of January.

In comparison Upton (72501) on Long Island, New York has a 1000-500 thickness of only 535.5, the cold air is of course below 850 hPa of course, and the 1000-850 is 1278 M if my maths is correct.

I think you are probably right, it just looks too high at almost 15°C.
The temperature at Valentia at midnight was only 11.0°C at a similar height (772 m).

It certainly rules out any possibility of skiing for the next week at Weardale.

Hi, Bruce,
It certainly rules out skiing for now! It's a very changeable spell atm, so I expect the snow will soon return there.
I use this site, just because they use the Copley data!!

Bruce,
GDF now shot down by over 7 degC in an hour to 8C, so there is / was a fault there. The link below shows the ski centre AWS, roughly 1800ft, has been around 8C throughout.

I bet some waters got in the works.

If that's a Vantage Pro AWS it's doing very well at that height, it must be one of the highest in the country.

The temperatures tonight are quite insane.

As if got dark the temperature soared outside here to 13C where I am in
North Yorkshire. The strong wind is bringing in some very warm air.

It is still holding at 13C even now at 21.23UT. Hasn't been sunny all
day this is rapid warm air bulk movement rather than from insolation.
