Tideswell, Derbyshire - Wednesday 3rd February 2016
---------------------------------------------------------------- 0900z 29010kt 15km 6Cu005 +01.7/+01.5 1015 RMK: A spell of snow during the early hours has produced 3cm of lying snow. It has begun to thaw slowly during the past hour. I was supposed to be attending a meeting at the Royal Met Soc in Reading today, travelling by train from Macclesfield but I got only as far as Buxton before I had to turn back. The Cat & Fiddle road from Buxton to Macclesfield was closed and also the Buxton to Leek road. I think the problem was that big artics were getting stuck on hills due to wheelspin on the hard-packed snow and were blocking the roads. There was a good number of 2WD cars and vans stuck on only relatively gentle inclines. I was very grateful for 4WD :-) Buxton has turned into a big lorry park this morning. 09-09z: Tx 5.7 (1150z) Tn +0.6 0620z RR 8.3 15-09z: Tg -3.2 00-24z: Sun 1.5 -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. http://peakdistrictweather.org |
