Just uploaded a time lapse video I put together of the eastern sky above
the Otter Valley on the 13th April. The video is from dawn until dusk and each second represents two minutes of real time. The whole video is 5 mins 44 seconds long. It starts with mist but that abruptly clears around 07:45 to blue skies, sunshine and medium and high level cloud. Interesting to see the shadows caused from the higher cloud race across the lower cloud (altocumulus?) as viewed from 'underneath'. The fluidity of the clouds is quite mesmerising. https://youtu.be/nap5-6jjke4 -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |

Don't know what they are ,but here in suburban Essex some of the horse chestnuts have small candles forming ,and even the oaks are quite green. RonB |

The trees are common oak (not sessile which are rare/non-existent here). I've just looked at the trees that are in the video and they are coming into leaf now but these ones always seem a bit late. Individually, oaks are highly variable in when they do come into and lose their leaves. There are a few oaks in the village that are nearly in full leaf. The handful of horse chestnuts that are around here are now all in full leaf and the beech tree leaves are just coming out too as are the chestnuts. Everything is greening up quickly now, I suspect that in two weeks time the trees will have taken on their full-leaf summer look. -- Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |

Beech will be ages yet, normally they come out in May along with the bluebells. Oaks are still dormant. Must say though the daffs are looking really good now and still loads to come out. I pity the people whose daffs came out in February when you have less daylight to enjoy them. Been an excellent year for primroses and celandine too, they are out in abundance now as well, but the snowdrops are over after a good show last month. I prefer the later Springs up here. First daffs out on Dec. 3rd and doubtless they'll still be out in May-that's 7 months' worth! I thought the flowering cherry would be a record breaker this year-earliest was last year May 8th,but early spring's chill has slowed it down, and only now have a couple of flowers emerged. |
