http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/662...on-snow-spring 'Forecasters blame a freak change in high-altitude wind direction leading to a sudden stratospheric warming. The phenomenon, which set in earlier last month, is though to have driven the unusually chilly start to spring this year. Met Office spokeswoman Helen Chivers said: "The cool spell we saw during the weekend just gone, and the colder conditions expected at the end of this week, are linked to the Sudden Stratospheric Warming event that occurred early last month. "We are seeing high pressure to the north and west of the UK, resulting in a chilly northerly air flow - a type of weather pattern often called 'blocking' by meteorologists.' Len Wembury |
