The 19 days 22nd May - 9th June
Rain - Only 1.1mm 22nd May - 9th June (none today yet, despite the radar - much with you Len?) Sunshine, even up on the moors, has averaged 9 hours per day (170 hour total). More on the coast. Temperature - Warmest start to June since 2006. Not one aspect exceptional in itself, but combined they have resulted in a great spell of weather. I'm quite please for a change as I need to get some work done. Bit more with some pics & stats @ http://www.cornishman.co.uk/Cornwall...ail/story.html Graham Penzance |

The quality of mercy is not strained, it falleth as the gentle rain from heaven. After two weeks of dry weather (3 mm) with maxes around 20°C every day.. The garden needs the rain and my back needs a rest from gardening, so all in all a good thing. The quality of mercy is not strained, it falleth as the gentle rain from heaven. Len Wembury, SW Devon, 85 m asl Here endeth the sermon from Mount Edgcombe! Mainly light winds & largely convectional rain mid month, might not be too bad on windward coasts (SW & W facing) of the SW. Slack low pressure can be good in summer down here on the point, especially if combined with that excellent visibility you can get. (Ever the optimist!) Graham |

The forecast shows 90% chance of rain (2 raindrops - black cloud) @ 11:00, 12:00, 13:00. Not a drop. Hope it's the same at the Royal Cornwall show. Cooler, but very humid muggy feel. No rain at St Ives or Land's End either http://www.landsendweather.info/met/mainframe.htm Graham Penzance |

The rain is here Graham. I wish the rain was here Len. The forecast led me to believe I would wake up to the 'glorious' stuff falling and my garden sighing with relief. But alas, not a drop. And the sun even managed to shine hazily for a while making it feel warm and humid as there was no wind. A maximum 20.8C with a DP of 18C for most of the afternoon. Still, the toms in the garden have loved this weather and their first flowers have appeared. The chillies and cucumbers have done well too and are well ahead of their normal size for this time in June. The runners are not doing so well and have only just reached the top of their canes. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |

In practice he could have spent an hour driving down to Land's End without putting the wipers on. Really, the only rain worth the name seemed to have been near Rame Head in the extreme SE of the County, next to Plymouth, where there was 2.8mm. There was also a sharp shower on Bodmin Moor. Rainfall today so far Lands End - Nil St Ives 0.8 Falmouth Nil Scilly 0.2mm Penzance Nil etc. It would be nice to have a bit of honesty. After all he did say earlier that most of the rain in the SW would be in Cornwall. I suspect he glanced at the radar and just assumed it was reaching the ground. I do wonder how much we'll get down here over the next few days, it mainly appears home grown convection which we tend to miss out on. We're normally fairly sunny under slack low pressure at this time of year. There may be a few proper fronts the following week, but that's a long way off. Graham Penzance |

I have a feeling that the coast here will see little in the way of rainfall next week. Experience has shown that the forecast area of slack low pressure in the summer results in a clear, sunny start with cloud developing during the morning and then a sea breeze sparking up mid/late morning suppressing convection. Here that means looking south to cloudless skies and unbroken sunshine (high(ish) UV and crystal clear visibility) whilst just a mile or two inland you can here thunder rumbling away. We'll see! -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |

Only 3.1mm here Nick. Not really needed as the soil is still quite moist an inch down. You complain about your runners, mine are only 6 inches high. However, my greenhouse toms have 3 trusses now and are thriving. Will -- " Some sects believe that the world was created 5000 years ago.
