The fairly classic cold front was not really on the forecasts, which showed basically white cloud all day, with little change in temperature (16-17C.)
This morning was typical warm sector. Muggy, bits of drizzle, glimpses of the sun. Then around noon a narrow band of proper rain went through, showed up well on the radar. After falling to around 15.5C during the rain, the temp rose to 18.7C by mid afternoon. UP to 20C on Scilly where the clearance arrive around 11:00. Behind the front very good visibility, less humid, and good sunny periods. In fact during the time I was at Sennen (13:00-15:00) it was largely unbroken sunshine. Quite a nice clean wave in a mostly F2-3 offshore SSE wind. http://magicseaweed.com/Live-Sennen-Webcam/65/ Graham Penzance - Nice to have some sunshine again. |

Eventual max 19.1C - rather more cloud appearing now. The clearance at noon shows up well up at Bossullow http://www.sunrecorder.net/googlemap...serial=1000 5 Graham Penzance |

But looking at the temperature and DPs, it seems that the CF possibly went through about 14:50 though there was no change in wind direction, or really any change in anything for that matter. Anyway, what stuck out today was the very high UV - I recorded a UV Index of 9.5 at 13:28. That's the highest this year by a reasonably large margin and the highest since a UV of 10.0 on the 14th July 2014, though many days have come close. I am presuming this high UV occurred just before the CF went through and confirms what we already know - very high UV levels are often found in warm sectors. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |

The banks of sea fog and cirrus cloud might have tempered the heat of the sun but it didn't stop the UV from being extreme. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |

A few large spots of rain on a couple of occasions, but not amounting to anything. UV 10.6 on Scilly. I took the precaution of spraying my rather bald head with waterproof sunblock before going the sea yesterday. Something of a clearance just to the west this afternoon, it can be seen here http://www.sennen-cove.com/index.htm , never made it ashore. Lovely clean swell the last couple of days seems to have been constructive, and has brought back some more of the sand that was removed in vast quantities during the huge sea in February. http://www.turnstone-cottage.co.uk/StormImogen2016.pdf was the only really big sea since 2014 - but it was really quite something. Looks like good surf for a while, and hopefully Penzance will now be to the west of that irritating front. Graham Penzance |
