Default Wanstead - June 2016 (3rd wettest to 1797, dullest since 1881)

For anyone looking for summery weather there was little to cheer about. For sunshine the month was the dullest June in a record going back to 1797. Just 96 hrs were recorded - which is just over half what we can expect in an average June.

Most notable was the rainfall: just over 139mm fell which is 272 per cent of average, and the third wettest since 1797. Only 1903 and 1860 were wetter.. The month also saw the record broken for highest daily rainfall in a 24-hour period. A multi-cell thunderstorm in the early hours of the 23rd saw 60..8mm fall, most of it in two hours, bringing flash floods to the surrounding area.

But, but, but how can that be, when Piers Corbyn, no less, stated that:

"We are forecasting a tremendous dry warm sunny Flaming June for most of the month. The
start will be dry, warm or hot, with sunny, blue skies. It will be more variable near the
south and east coasts of England while Scotland will be very sunny. Some great weather is
on the way.

He has just confessed that: "June in Britain & Ireland while largely following the
forecast in RELATIVE terms has been wetter than our original WeatherAction forecast from
6months / 30days ahead and there have been some related rain understating errors in USA
and Europe."

After that amount of blatant wriggling, perhaps he should give an example to his brother
and resign :-)

Or perhaps little Jim Cannon would like to explain what went wrong with such a confident
forecast?

I've no idea. I always thought he was left wing yet was at the UKIP after-election party hob-nobbing with Farage. And he must be devastated now Boris is off the scene.

Quite cleary the weather was wrong and not his forecast

Good luck with that one.
I'm still waiting for an explanation from Cannon as to why the Feb 2015
forecast (exceptional cold, blizzards, you know the kind of thing) went
so disastrously wrong.

How many days thunder, Scott? The total here was 9, which is a record (1983). It was just over one degree cooler here but the mean was still slightly above average.
