It's already (11:45) the warmest day of the year along the north Cornish coast. Even on the cliff tops, around 24C at St Mawgan, and 25C at Land's End..
It's been very sunny recently, even over the moors 13th - 11 hours 14th - 10 hours 15th - 9 hours 16th - 13 hours 17th - 15 hours 5 Day Total 58 hours http://www.sunrecorder.net/googlemap...serial=100 05 For some time we've been just south of the frontal cloud, only just the tip of Cornwall sticking out at times. It's certainly too hot for the wetsuit today. Jubilee Pool http://www.covecottagestloy.co.uk/wp...bilee-pool.jpg is closed today until 2pm, for the official opening (by Prince Charles) and misc Councillors, some of who voted against it's re-opening. Given that approx 1,000 paid to go in the pool over the course of yesterday, at an average cost of around £3 per head, 5 lifeguards had to be on duty, perhaps Charles will make up the shortfall. Maybe even make a donation to the Friends. Still, I suppose it's all good publicity. Graham Penzance |

I was a coward when I went swimming in Perranporth, when that swell came in and me feet didn't touch the ground plus that feeling of being dragged out , blimey no way. |

Yes, I go swimming a fair bit, my surfing is limited to bodyboarding these days. As you get older, there's less & less you can do purely for fun & a bit of excitement. It doesn't matter how old you are, or how crap you are, I'm fairly addicted. Also it's a great form of escapism - just forget the world for a while. Graham |

Warmest day of the year to date with a maximum of 27.0C here and with a DP of 21.0C at the same time, it felt very warm and humid. UV down on previous days with 'just' 7.9. We really could do with some rain but looking at the long range forecast it seems that here in the deep south, there's none on offer for the next week at least. The garden grass has gone from green to brown in under a week and the hills out back are now turning brown too. This part of Devonshire is no longer the lush, pastoral landscape it normally is. Today, the offshore SSTs at 1 metre depth in Lyme Bay exceeded 20C for the first time this summer. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |

As always, Nick, we live on different planets! I've never seen the Peak District as lush and green in mid-July as it is this year. The greenkeepers on the golf course are struggling to keep the growth in check. The farmers are having a bumper crop of grass for winter feed. The very wet June has been largely responsible. -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. http://peakdistrictweather.org |
