It may be misty, drizzle & pretty dull, but a good wave means plenty in sea - Porhmeor St Ives live http://www.sloop-inn.co.uk/live-surf...ve-web-camera/
Tide's on the bank now, so no good for bodyboarders until evening when it drops a bit. What I like about Cornwall, is the way people use the beaches when it rains.. It rather demonstrates how, certainly on the north coast, people come for the watersports, not lying down & getting burnt. I was in Torquay for a couple of days last year, as soon is it turned dull the beach was deserted. Thie difference is stark. Graham Penzance |

Rain, wind, sun makes no difference, it's all good. I hate going into water, unless I am in a dinghy or bigger boat! Lying on a beach all day would my idea of total boredom, although some decent scenery makes a bit of a difference :-) Will -- " Some sects believe that the world was created 5000 years ago. I remember when my mate Mike S was a lifeguard at Sennen. He used to spend quiet moments when the sea was calm using his binoculars to bring the scenery into view. This could lead to providing invites to the evening beach BBQ, or to Skewjack. The original 1970s brochure http://www.skewjack.co.uk/Skewjackbp6.jpg http://www.skewjack.co.uk/Skewjackbp2.jpg http://www.skewjack.co.uk/Skewjackbp7.jpg I remember taking my now wife to Skewjack just after I met her London. Those were the days. Graham |

Must be a Torquay thing Graham, though I rarely ever go there thankfully to comment. Around 'ere though: Windy: kite surfing, wind surfing and if there are waves, normal surfing. Hot and sunny (no wind): kayaking, swimming, snorkelling, people stood up on surfboard thingies with a paddle. Breezy but no big surf: sailing/yachting (Sidmouth has its own yacht club). The only thing the rain interferes with are the holiday-makers wanting to sunbathe but you'll still see them swimming and the locals doing all of the above no matter what the weather..... In the winter time on a windy day the kite surfers are something else, amazing to watch. So I don't think Cornwall has the monopoly on these things. Warm, dry and very humid today, especially this afternoon in the sunny intervals. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |

I don't really understand the craze to be honest. Unless you're really good and can surf on them it all seems a bit boring. Sort of kayaking made pointlessly difficult. Having said all that I have plans to have a lesson at Marazion! Lucky I'm not posting all this stuff to Bruce's group, I'd be barred! Graham |

So that's what it's called - Stand Up Paddleboarding! I suppose the clue's in the name. Well, it seems to be all the rage at the moment when the sea is calm. The other day there were loads out there - like little ants walking on water. I can imagine it becomes a bit uncomfortable after a while. Through binoculars I sprogged somebody a long way out paddling away with 2 kids, 2 dogs and what looked like a picnic hamper onboard. Yes, better be careful Graham, Will might kill-file you.... :-) -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |
