Default West Cornwall - Huge north coast South coast difference.

Left Penzance @ 10:00. Broken low cloud & sunny spells in Penzance, 18.5C. At St Just (near Cape Cornwall) it was not the good visibility forecast for that time, it was dense sea fog (well cliff top fog to be precise). In fact the thickest fog I've experienced for many months, well under 100m visibility. It was also steady drizzle & (according to the car thermometer) 16C.

Just got back to Penzance. Still sunny intervals, the sun visible through the low cloud much of the time. Car thermometer showed 20C, Stevenson screen just 20C (11:45) and completely dry. Very little wind, a warm, muggy feel. A different world weatherwise.

Thick fog at Land's End airport is not a good thing on a school holidays changeover day! Still, it might well clear as slightly drier air edges in from the north. In fact, having just looked at the Sennen harbour webcam, which looks towards the airport, it's just lifted off the cliff tops. http://www.sennen-cove.com/harbourcam.htm

Now sunny spells in Penzance and virtually calm.

Places like Land's End, which were in the thick fog ahead of the front, with temperatures around 16-17C, are now warming up behind the 'cold' front. The passage of which can be clearly seen by the wind veer http://www.landsendweather.info/met/mainframe.htm

Most places away from the north coast and hill tops saw now rain, or not enough to dampen the ground.

High tide & jumping off the breakwater time. http://www.sennen-cove.com/harbourcam.htm Some holidaymaker called the coastguard recently, to report such 'idiotic' action. Most of those involved were local & probably related to the lifeboat crew. I'm sure the coastguard made some comforting noises.

I suppose tombstoning would be fine too, if it was performed by locals. Nothing for 'some holidaymakers' to get concerned about there eh?

Are you and smug joined at the hip?

It's quite OK off the harbour wall at high tide. To my knowledge no one as ever been seriously hurt doing it. I doubt if there's a member of the current lifeboat crew who hasn't done it in their youth. In fact I jumped off last summer at high tide. It is, arguably, safer than hiring bodyboards out during a big swell when there's a real danger of a RIP.

Back in the 70's my friend (who was one of the Sennen lifeguards at the time) used to regular jump off the wall.

There are many things I don't know, but what I do know is what's safe (relatively - nothings completely safe in the sea) and rather silly (swimming in the current to the south of the beach rock) at Sennen.

So f**k off back to weather & climate arsehole.
