Politics with everything
I like my chips sweet and soggy. And there is a Turkish grocer down the road that in season sells the best spud for them. But this is not yet the season, so I was using Tesco for the only place in SoT that I know sells maize and decided to chance the Turkish deli. It turns out that the Turkish for maize is bakliyat and they sell a kilo for 88 pence. In Tesco it is well over a quid for 500 grams.
If you can see where this is going, or need to find an alternative cereal supply staple because of wheat allergies or whatever. Check out the price differences between an immigrant shop and a British farmer ****ing, British monopoly. On you way through check out the quantities of and their prices for popped corn, I think Tesco sell a large bag of that for about £1.50.
Good old fashioned cultural differences; screw you.
If you want to know how to make it in a microwave put a good handful in a tall bowl with a ceramic lid and give a layer at the bottom of the bowl about 3 minutes. Do it in 1.5 minute intervals and put the unpopped corn back in with the next batch.
No oil. And it is best in a ceramic dish as the corn heats up a plastic container and spoils it. Or you can pay a quid or more for a few grams of prepared corn. That is what supermarkets do to your culture these days.
