It reached 18.5C yesterday in glorious sunshine, despite a blustery breeze. As warm as just about anywhere in the SW. A sure sign we're heading to the winter half of the year.
The wind increased during the evening, distinctly windy by midnight. That helped keep the temperature up, minimum of 15.1C. Today spells of weak sunshine through thin middle/high level frontal cloud. Vry windy. Gusts 40-50mph at both Culdrose & St Ives, where the peak gust was 45kt. With the strong wind, little temperature change, after the min of 15.1C, max 17.0C. All the windows covered in salt & the prom covered in seaweed from this mornings high tide. Looks like we're stuck with strong SE for at least 2 more days, also set to turn a bit colder. I think I may have to pack the wetsuit away until Spring. At Sennen, the big swell combined with a strong offshore wind, is finally bring the sand back, after very low levels much of the summer. Meanwhile at Porthminster, which faces east, the very high sand levels are likely to be cut into. It's a long long time since we had a prolonged spells of easterlies. Graham Penzance |

It's rather strange to see the clouds coming from the wrong direction.... Oh no Graham! Packing the wetsuit away for the winter. I think I'll hang on a bit more, in fact I haven't actually worn my wet suit since the spring but if I go for a swim this weekend I think it will definitely be a 'summer' wetsuit job. The winter one can wait. I would try and pop down for a final surf with you but I'm caught up with too many site visits at the moment. Yesterday (18.9C) was much sunnier (9.5 hours) than today but surprisingly today was warmer (19.8C) despite the strong breeze and weaker/hazier sunshine. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |
