Does anyone know of any good references/reports that describe the
influence of Greenland blocking and its influence in the summer months on the UK weather? I understand that a blocking high over Greenland results in a trough in the jet over the UK but need to understand how that relates to rainy, unsettled summer weather (e.g. 2007 and 2012). Am I correct in thinking that Greenland blocking in summer is associated with a negative NAO, and that wet UK summers tend to occur with a negative NAO, and dry UK summers are associated with a positive NAO, a northerly displaced jet and frequent ridging of high pressure from the Azores high over the UK? I am giving a presentation in a month about UK weather, climate and evidence/projections of climate change and want to make sure I have my facts correct, I understand what is going on and I am objective. |
