After a dull December, and exceptionally dull January.
At Bosullow, 4 miles from Penzance on top of the Penwith moors, only 20 hours of sunshine this month. http://www.greatbosullow.net/ . It is, of course, particularly dull over the moors at this time of year, the coast doing a fair bit better, but even in Penzance I doubt if the total has exceeded 30 hours. To get this into perspective, I have the January figures for the last 7 years at Bosullow, and the dullest January was 2012 with 41.8 hours. So currently the figure is just 50% of the dullest year. Set to be a bit wild on the north Cornish coast tonight. Not forecast to be a particularly big swell, peaking at about 20' at Sevenstones, but very, very rough with an onshore F8-9. Graham Penzance |

Graham Penzance 25.5 hours of sun in Tideswell so far this month. The dullest January I have recorded is 27.4 hours in 2013 so we'll probably exceed that this year. January average here is 36.4 hours. I'll be keeping an eye on the Liverpool Bay shower stream this week. I'm supposed to be driving to Anglesey and back on Tuesday. At the moment, that doesn't look like a very good idea! -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. https://peakdistrictweather.org twitter: @TideswellWeathr |

December was my dullest recorded with 51.7 hours, and was the 2nd dullest of any month. This month is continuing in a similar manner though not quite as bad with the total now at 55 hours. My average January sunshine over the last 13 years has been 81 hours. I cannot even say 'at least it's been mild' as the mean monthly temperature is slightly below my eLTA. Still, the sun is shining at the moment. It was a bit blowy last night. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |
