Big swell this morning, looks long period as well
https://www.atlanticcottageholidays....m-sennen-cove/ With the forecast for the next few days, it's set to get bigger. It's actually a good deal brighter than that webcam suggests. It tends to be dark, and the salt on the lens doesn't help. Apparently, Camborne had it's dullest January in the 58 year record, it certainly was dull. However, some months this year Camborne has seemed very dull compared with other sites. E.G nearby Bosullow, on the moors, tends to have very similar sunshine as Camborne. Bosullow gets more mist/fog, Camborne gets more fair weather sea breeze front cloud, but it seems to balance out. E.G Bos Camborne 2013 1513 1491 (98.5%) 2014 1672 1614 (96.5%) 2015 1468 1508 (102.5%) 2016 1512 1461 (96.5%) You get the idea. However, in 2018:- Bos Camborne MAY 228 184 JUNE 252 215 JULY 256 220 AUG 178 120! Alan actually has 3 sunshine recorders going, and they were all very similar, and the figures seem very reasonable and compare well with other places in Devon /Cornwall, given typical variances. Camborne is very much the odd one out. Camborne is manned, so should be OK, but the differences are odd. It's fair to say that Bosullow was also exceptionally dull in January. Graham Penzance |

Very big swell this afternoon https://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_pa...?station=62107 Even in Mount's Bay at Perranuthnoe it looked pretty uninviting. Meaning it was pretty, and it was uninviting. Lovely view from the Cabin though. http://www.thecabinbeachcafe.co.uk/g.../theCabin1.jpg Graham Penzance |

Graham, very interesting. My experience of the far west peninsula,
especially the western coastal area from south of Land's End, Sennen through to Cape Cornwall is a very sunny 'strip'. Many memories of being on Gwenver Beach in unbroken sunshine all day during a typical August westerly whilst inland cumulus build up and spoils the day. A sunshine recorder in Sennen Cove would be good thing; anyone? Similar sunshine pattern here as Bosullow in 2018 for last summer: May = 268 Jun = 285 Jul = 297 Aug = 193 The start of February has bucked the trend of dull winter months so far with 26 hours so far (1st - 7th). My February average for the last 14 years is 92 hours. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |
