Gota frio translates to cold drop. The upper low has dumped 140mm in some places around Alicante. I went out this morning and many roads are under six inches of water. Spanish news reported two deaths, drowning, near Valencia.. Thunder and lightning with torrential rain outside here now in Guardamar. All roads are rivers now. Not cold, though! More rain overnight and perhaps a little less tomorrow.

Parts of Portugal could do with a bit of Gata Fria to dampen some of the
fires that are breaking out here and there, especially in the middle of the country. Soils are now just dust in places. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |

Many people had to leave their homes and still can't return.. Major problem was a dam up in high ground that was about to burst. The authorities had to let water out and hence about a metre of standing water all over the place. Spanish met say it's the worst event for 140 years. |
