On Friday the residual frontal cloud quickly cleared to give prolonged sunshine, with the NNE wind picking up to a F4 late morning.
Early afternoon the wind quickly dropped, and I had a swim around 14:00 in light winds and a temperature around 19C, it was perfect. However, by this time the wind had backed easterly along the south coast east of the Lizard and the convergence created a typical line of cloud. This streamed off the LIzard in the Marazion-Praa Sands region and across Mounts Bay, fortunately far enough south to not affect Penzance until around 15:00 when the convergence line edged north. The temperature reached 19.5C just before the cloud edged over, after a minimum of 14.2C, and a maximum of 20.4C on Thursday. A chilly night last night, minimum of 9.2C. So far (now 15:15) unbroken sunshine today. Maximum 20.6C. From the satellite imagery we only just missed a fog bank passing by the Lizard. Certainly the higher humidity & very light winds made it feel very warm. 30 day running sunshine total up on the moors at Bosullow is still 200 hours, it's been a very sunny year here https://www.greatbosullow.net Graham Penzance |

Pretty much unbroken sunshine here for today and yesterday. And with
barely a breath of wind, warm too with maximums of 22.9C & 22.7C. Monthly sunshine total now at 90 hours, which is slightly above the average. Given the forecast, this could end up a sunny and warm September. Though it'll have to go some to beat September 2014 for warmth (mean = 16.7C) or September 2015 for sunshine (225 hours). -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |

To beat that I have to go back to 2006, and exceptional 17.2C September 2015 saw 164.3 hours up at Bosullow, I think that may well be beaten, 95 hours so far. The August figures online are incorrect, due to upload issues. Bosullow actually saw 205.5 hours in August.
