Default Grim in West Cornwall (the weather that is!)

Cloudy all day yesterday, with a maximum of 11.3C, the lowest max of the autumn by a full degree. Patchy rain from noon, gradually becoming more persistent with an increasing easterly wind.

A wet & windy night, 12.3mm of rain in the 24 hours to 09:00 today, when it was still raining. Gusting 50mph at Lands End, so the rain is horizontal.

Also very big tides. Luckily the pressure is not low, and there's not a big swell, but it is very rough & anywhere east facing is catching it. Tides around 0.2m above the already very high astronomical tide.

We've got a good 36 hours of this to go, I think I'll hibernate. It's not as if it's exciting, just grim.

20mm of rain for the event so far in Penzance & Bosullow, Gusts to well over 60mph at Gwennap Head where it reached F9. A biggish swell now coming from an unusual direction into normally sheltered spots. As a result flooding in Falmouth (Swanpool area) & other spots (some overtopping at St Ives at high tide.

It has been pretty bad, strongest wind in Penzance since before summer. F8 on Scilly since 08:00.

So gale, heavy rain, flooding from the sea, no weather warning. (England not affected?)

Still raining, 48 hours now with very few breaks. At least its no longer a gale & milder. Yesterday saw the strongest winds sincelast winter at my station.

Some issues on the last 2 high tides at anywhere facing east. Flooding on the Liskeard to Looe line, Scilly basically cut off etc. Freight ship spent the night stuck on st Marys, where it was a F8 for 12 hours.

At least its passed the grim phase and edged into interesting/exciting!

Technically, as a group of islands, isn't Scilly *always* cut off... :P

??
'cut off' definition

an act of stopping or interrupting the supply of something.
