It was a very different day not far away in Didsbury south Manchester. It was much cooler than yesterday certainly (by 7c) but after early fog cleared (by 8-8.30 am) there were long spells of hazy sunshine with pale blue sky and it was dry though it became rather cloudy for a while in the middle of the afternoon. Max temp was about 19c reached at lunchtime - turning cooler from early afternoon onwards as an ENE wind set in and freshened. Yet yesterday the Rostherne max was 26.2c - over 1c lower than Tideswell and similarly on Monday the max temp was a bit lower than in the Peak.

You've had the benefit of being in the lee of the hills today. Not so
fortunate here with open exposure to all that the North Sea can push
our way.

Today, at the same time, Penzance & Culdrose (to the nearest degree) 21C, Camborne 16C. Such differences between the north & south coasts are not uncommon (there was a similar difference yesterday, and the other way around a few days back) but that doesn't stop the MetO giving Camborne reports as recent weather for Penzance. For a short while they said there were no comparable nearby stations, which was a better idea.

You clearly survived the Sussex heat!

30° on Monday with hardly a breath of wind wasn't very pleasant. Came
home Monday night and 11° when we arrived at 11 p.m. was just what the
doctor ordered :-)
