Brilliant. After assuming it was going to be cloudy all night, I looked
out after midnight and it had cleared. Bands of green were stretching right across from east to west. As I watched, intense reds developed, and a corona (?). I've tried to capture the show as far as is possible with a camera. Canon S50, f2.8, ISO 200, 15 secs Http://home.clara.net/ra.evans/aurora/index.html and yes, it was that bright!! this links to a thumbnail index. The larger images are uncompressed jpegs to keep pixellation to a minimum, but they are only 500 x 375 so shouldn't take too long for those, like me, who don't have the luxury of broadband..... -- Anita Evans North Cumbria (anita[at]ra.evans.clara.co.uk to reply by e-mail) |

I'll have to change my film speed to 200 tonight, as there may well be a repeat, going by the various monitoring websites. -- Mike posted to uk.sci.weather 31/10/2003 12:41:07 UTC Coleraine Seeking information about the Internet and the way it works? - Subscribe to news:uk.net.beginners |

First time I've used the digital at night and I'm well impressed with it. I forgot to mention that none of the red/orange glow is from street lights. -- Anita Evans North Cumbria (anita[at]ra.evans.clara.co.uk to reply by e-mail) |

Excellent. Like you, I had given up hope of seeing anything last night, but I went out just after midnight. There was a bright searchlight effect to the west, with the pink directly overhead! Not as bright as yours, but then I probably have a lot more light pollution ![]() Paul Troon -- Paul |
