Enjoy it while it lasts! Unfortunately, I find myself unable to take
advantage of the cloudless skies here by being holed up in a lab office
trying to do work

I'm doing a PhD so don't have the luxury of a reading week. Rather,
every week is a reading week but with other work to do at the same time!

Now higher than Heathrow's temp. of yesterday
Currently +18.7°C. No other nearby stations are nearly as high, though I
notice RAF Kinloss is reporting 19°C. With a gentle southerly here I can
only presume it's rare local fohn effect from the Southern uplands.

Very nice, too. I bet your record isn't as long as Stornoway though
(142 years), which has just reported a new November record maximum for
the station, of 15.4 degrees C (BBC News 24). It's still early
afternoon, so perhaps this will be broken again in the next few
hours...

It's a paltry 13 degrees down here on the South Coast at the moment,
albeit very nice out in the sun.

I'll get my BA out of the way first before I start doing one of those. The first
six weeks have felt like reading week to be fair !

Back on-topic, got your shorts on Alex ?!

Indeed, the inversion is playing a part in that effect.

for the 12Z ascent. It shows 13.6C up at 1351m.

Hi Dave, just 10 years of records here. But I'm fairly sure this will be
approaching or indeed will be the warmest November day in the central
lowlands in my lifetime? (albeit a mere 30 years).
Cooling quickly now, but still a very respectable +15.8°C.
