Default Re; Today's model interpretation 11.11.03

"In summary, the runs today continue to show a mobile setup, albeit a
westerly/NW'ly type of flow than SW'ly/WSW'ly. One thing the runs all show
is high pressure remaining to the NE of Svalbard, which has the effect of
forcing lows to move eastwards or even ESE'wards from Iceland, rather than
the usual NE'wards. The GFS and Canadian runs out to 10 days both show lows
passing close to Scotland as a result later in the period. As ever, more
runs are needed".

The wording here is rather interesting, "One thing the runs all show
is high pressure remaining to the NE of Svalbard, which has the effect of
forcing lows to move eastwards or even ESE'wards from Iceland, rather than
the usual NE'wards".

I still would not get too excited about an imminent cold spell though. It is
a bit too early for that, but at least some longer term signs maybe there.

Gavin.

What is it about COLD weather that we all like?

For me, its an excuse to light a real fire in the fireplace.
There is nothing like venturing outside to icy cold weather preferably with significant snow with a
bucket to collect logs and/or coal.
Then coming inside to a warm and cosy living room with the lights turned off and a good DVD movie on
the wide-screen TV.

The flickering of the flames in a dark room when it is cold outside is a feeling that cannot be
matched.
I have already purchased my annual 100 logs (for £7.50) from a local tree-feller.

I have lit 2 fires so far this season. Admittedly neither was necessary. I hope I have a
"genuine" excuse to light a fire well before and during Christmas.

Brendan

Real flame coal effect gas fires are nearly as good and somewhat less
messy. I, too, sometimes light it for effect (mmmmm...) as it's only
actually needed in those elusive January 1963 conditions when the
Central Heating can't always cope.

You're spot on there Brendan. I have fantastic memories
off sitting down to a dvd shown on my lcd projector with valve driven
surround sound- back in 1962/3.
