Running rainfall total Jan-Nov c.f. mean for that period:

Total to 16/0900Z = (408.2mm/64%)

% anomaly (of year mean)= 58%

To compare, the driest calendar year in nearby Beaufort Park(BP)
1971-2002 record = 487mm which occurred in 1990: it looks as if we need
a good amount of rainfall over the remaining weeks of this year to come
up to this area.

Of more interest perhaps is the comparison with the same period
(Jan-Nov) in 1975, the precursor year to the 'Great Drought' of 1976.
In 1975, the total PPN Jan-Nov at BP = 604mm, with the total for the
calendar year 1975= 633mm - as noted above, so far this year we have had
just over 400mm (our record is usually within 4% of the BP record).

In 1975, September was wet, with 114mm as compared to *this* year when
September only managed to produce 8mm.

If this extended dry period were to linger over winter and into next
spring, then water supply problems in the SE of England are certain to
be severe.
