(I think the term is: "munged"?) Not a bad thing if it makes people cautious. My headers will read "posted from Mailgate" or some-such but I've never used netcom. Some of the stuff I'm alleged to have posted is unavailable to readers of Google Newsgroups. They are also unreadable in Mailgate but show up as unopenable messages. Not a very good forgery so I am not that bothered. If I thought it would help I would complain to the relevant authorities but it doesn't bother me -for now at least. If it should do, tell me why. I was getting some replies recently from skeptics using different names, now they seem to have all gone away and a different set of admirers have taken their place. All grist to the mill though, as if I am on the right track with the things that I say, I will get better at it. If my opposers ever come up with insuperable obstacles of reason and logic they will be doing me a favour in getting me out of this lonely rut. If it should do, tell me why. Exactly! If I can be of any help? Michael sounds as if he is not in need of help - but I'd be grateful. Some spammer has hi-jacked the gliding club e-mail address and is sending out tons of spam, much of which is bouncing back to us. I have not looked at any of the attachments of course, bur I gather they are advertising a highly undesirable web site. I'd be grateful to know what, if anything, to do about it - like how to complain to the relevant authorities, for a start. Anne |

I'm no expert but someone on your team has a trojan in their computer and possibly a key logger. Got to a reputable geek site such as Ziff Davis' forums and ask there. I cleared a load of junk with HijackThis and msn's own online antivirus RAVantivirus or something. HijackThis allows you to post a log of all that their programme finds on your computer on their forum where it can be seen by experts. And it's free consultation and programme. Make sure you have updated your security and antispyware. Also try reporting the abuse or checking up on it through: http://www.abuse.net/index.phtml -- Posted via Mailgate.ORG Server - http://www.Mailgate.ORG |

Looking at the full headers of the original spam, which hopefully will be included within at least some of the bounce messages, would probably enable the true source of the spam to be determined, so that their ISP can be complained to. -- John Hall You can divide people into two categories: those who divide people into two categories and those who don't |

Try reading her post again fool. Are you always so polite to those trying to be helpful? Anyway, I've read the original post again, and stand by what I said. And why cut the one bit you were replying to? That _wasn't_ the bit that I was replying to. The part with the advice in it I snipped that because, if your diagnosis was wrong, then the advice you gave would not be relevant. -- John Hall "[It was] so steep that at intervals the street broke into steps, like a person breaking into giggles or hiccups, and then resumed its sober climb, until it had another fit of steps." I'd be grateful to know what, if anything, to do about it - like how to complain to the relevant authorities, for a start. You could stop using IE for a start: Sept 14, 2000 - Microsoft quietly shadows Web surfers across MSN sites (persistence issue) news.cnet.com "In response to an advisory posted by PCHelp, a Washington state Internet technology consultancy, Microsoft said it redirects its various Web properties' visitors to a single server that assigns them a unique identifier. Microsoft last month patched its Internet Explorer browser to give people more information about and control over the types of cookies Web sites were attempting to place on their computers. The complaint that spurred that repair had to do with third-party cookies that worked across different domains. Microsoft confirmed that the IE patch does not detect its own cross-domain cookies, so visitors are not warned when the cookies are placed." (link courtesy of "pchelp") http://accs-net.com/smallfish/ And do some work on your hosts files to fuse the outside cookies that track you: The short answer is that the Hosts file is like an address book. When you type an address like www.yahoo.com into your browser, the Hosts file is consulted to see if you have the IP address, or "telephone number," for that site. If you do, then your computer will "call it" and the site will open. If not, your computer will ask your ISP's (internet service provider) computer for the phone number before it can "call" that site. Most of the time, you do not have addresses in your "address book," because you have not put any there. Therefore, most of the time your computer asks for the IP address from your ISP to find sites. http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/what_is_hosts.html -- Posted via Mailgate.ORG Server - http://www.Mailgate.ORG |
