The radar image, courtesy of Avbrief, showed several white pixels (over
32mm/hr) in the Reading-Maidenhead district at 1245, 1300 and 1315. Any ground truth for this pocket of heavy rain? I notice there was a marked discontinuity in the display at about 53.5 degN for several hours suggesting calibration difficulties. Philip Eden |

Well I live in Windsor now Phillip. The rain was heavy but not torrential
of the kind I would expect white areas to show. There is a lot of standing water on the roads though (you have to move lane on some dual carriageways) - but this is probably due to the prolonged rainfall rather than any torrential downpour. It's still going too! Ian Waddell Windsor "Philip Eden" philipATweatherHYPHENukDOTcom wrote in message .. . Philip,
I was away from Wokingham during the relevant period, but there was heavy rain and some very black looking sky when I returned at 1430. I will let you know if there was anything spectacular here for those times when I analyse the autographic rain recorder chart tomorrow AM. -- Bernard Burton Wokingham, Berkshire, UK. Philip, I cannot confirm that intensity (32mm) here in Reading. Rain was heavy with fairly big drops of convective origin (some sort of line convection perhaps?) but not that torrential. Around this time a friend of mine thinks she saw some partially melted snowflakes in the windscreen of her car so the `brightband effect` comes to my mind. I will let you know if the University instruments recorded anything more interesting. HTH, Fotis |

Hi all,
I was asleep at home in Lower Earley, S Reading as I'm doing nights at the moment, but was woken a couple of times during the day, around this time, by the rain hammering against the east-facing bedroom window. As the wind was fairly light, it must have been heavy to make a loud enough racket to arouse me from my slumber!! The River Loddon, a frequent "flooder" during wet spells was looking rather full as I drove into work, but as it was dark, I couldn't tell properly! The Moat House hotel at Sindlesham (an apt name) may see its carpark flooded soon...several times in the last few years, I've seen the tops of cars poking out of floodwater in the carpark, and the guests being rowed to and from the door in a boat! cheers, Paul K.
