After a totally clear start here, a line of cloud developed over Coleraine,
with a base around 9000ft and extending up to cirrus levels. http://www.mikett.plus.com/waves/DSC00006.JPG With clear skies either side of it, the appearance was that of a wave cloud - albeit a very large one. Then I realised the wind was blowing parallel to it and not at right angles as is typical of lenticular clouds. It seems to be linked with the frontal activity over GB heading this way and is clearly seen on this 12.21z NOAA pass: http://www.dfd.dlr.de/ftp/put/wetter...2011221.uk.jpg -- Mike Coleraine posted to uk.sci.weather 01/12/2003 13:18:44 UTC My aurora images here http://www.mtullett.plus.com/29a-oct and http://www.mtullett.plus.com/20-nov/ |

I would suspect (without much information to go on though) that it is more likely to be associated with a jet stream. Jack |
