Hi All
Why is it, that all the weather reports in the Midlands this morning show that it's foggy, even Cosford which is only about 15 miles away, yet where I am in Wolverhampton it's a sunny clear morning? Joe |

In contrast to before the clean air act in the 50s, when urban centres would have the thickest and most persistent fog or smog, the "urban heat island" effect ensures that these areas are less likely to have fog than the surrounding countryside. that it's foggy, even Cosford which is only about 15 miles away, yet where I am in Wolverhampton it's a sunny clear morning? Probably because the reports are from airfields, which tend to be in low-lying places. Cosford is quite a lot lower than Wolverhampton, I think. My nearest major airport is Gatwick, which has much more fog than we get here up on the Downs, though ironically it's actually getting quite foggy here as I type this.
