Default 12Z Model Summary - Friday 12th December 2003

High pressure (1030mb) lies over Southeastern Europe. Low pressure
(970mb) lies over Iceland, with another low (980mb) out in the
Atlantic. Winds across the country are mostly moderate
southwesterlies. Many parts will be mainly dry but rain is likely in
the northwest. Temperatures will be close to normal in most parts.
Beyond this pressure tries to build west/northwestwards across the UK
from the European High.

pressure (990mb) lies just to the south of Iceland. Winds across the
country are mostly moderate southwesterlies. Many parts will be mainly
dry but rain is likely in the northwest. Temperatures will be close to
normal in most parts. 850hPa temperatures range from +2C in the east
to +5C in the extreme southwest. Forecast 2m temperatures range from
+8C in the east to +11C in the far west. Beyond this there is little
change in the general pattern.

the northeast of the UK over Scandinavia, with further lows out in the
Atlantic. Winds across the UK are mostly light and variable in
direction. Most parts will be mainly dry and bright. Temperatures will
be close to or just below normal.

Summary:
A rather quiet start to next week with high pressure close to the
south before unsettled weather tries to move back in from the
Atlantic. However, most of the unsettled weather looks like being
restricted to the northwest of the UK.
