Regards,

Situation now going tits up? :-(

On the good side though is the fact that if, at the moment, forecasters
aren't able to get the next 24 hours right what chance have they over 72

or
96 hours?

Victor

Still for once this Group hasn't been going mad hyping the prospects up.
We've left that to the Met Office!

Dave

The Warning is as follows :-

EARLY WARNING OF SEVERE WEATHER

EARLY WARNING OF HEAVY SNOW

ISSUED BY THE MET OFFICE AT 08:10 ON SATURDAY, 20 DECEMBER 2003.

OVERALL RISK ASSESSMENT: THE PROBABILITY OF DISRUPTION DUE TO
SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS IN PART OF THE UNITED KINGDOM WITHIN THE
NEXT 60 HOURS IS 80 PERCENT.

THIS IS AN UPDATE TO THE WARNING ISSUED AT 09:00 ON FRIDAY 19
DECEMBER 2003.

THE MET OFFICE IS EXPECTING A COMPLEX LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM TO MOVE
EAST ACROSS THE COUNTRY TODAY, BRINGING HEAVY RAIN TO MANY, THIS
TURNING TO SNOW ABOVE ABOUT 200 M OVER THE GRAMPIANS, AND 500 M OVER
THE SOUTHERN UPLANDS OF SCOTLAND, WITH THE RISK OF WET SNOW DOWN TO
LOW LEVELS, E.G. OVER THE GLASGOW AND EDINBURGH AREAS. THIS IS
EXPECTED TO LAST MUCH OF TODAY AND TONIGHT, LEADING TO LARGE
ACCUMULATIONS (AS MUCH AS 30 CM OF LEVEL SNOW OVER THE GRAMPIANS)
AND GIVING VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. AS THE PERSISTENT RAIN
AND SNOW CLEARS TONIGHT, STRONG TO GALE FORCE NORTH TO NORTHWESTERLY
WINDS WILL SET IN, CAUSING DRIFTING OF LYING SNOW OVER SCOTLAND AND
BRINGING MUCH COLDER CONDITIONS DOWN ACROSS THE COUNTRY ON SUNDAY,
WITH SHOWERS TURNING PROGRESSIVELY TO SNOW FROM THE NORTH. THESE
WILL MAINLY AFFECT NORTHERN AND EASTERN SCOTLAND, AND, LATER ON
SUNDAY, THE EASTERN COASTAL STRIP OF ENGLAND AS WELL AS MUCH OF EAST
ANGLIA. SNOW SHOWERS ARE ALSO EXPECTED TO AFFECT NORTHERN IRELAND
AND WALES, THOUGH THESE WILL NOT BE AS FREQUENT OR AS HEAVY AS THOSE
IN THE EAST.

TRANSMITTED BY THE MET OFFICE. AT 08:10 ON SATURDAY 20 DECEMBER 2003
DURING MONDAY SHOWERS WILL SLOWLY DIE AWAY, WITH RAIN AND MILDER
WEATHER SPREADING FROM THE NORTHWEST, PRECEDED BY SNOW FOR A TIME.

Regards
Paul

Paul - where do you see that - is there a URL? as all I see is this:

"Severe weather is expected in the next few hours, for:
Midlands Heavy Rain at 11:15

No severe weather is expected in the next 12 to 48 hours.

More about these warnings"
