Default 12Z Model Summary - Monday 22nd December 2003

Charts analysed are for T+96 hours - 12Z Boxing Day, Thursday 26th
December 2003 unless stated.

UKMetO:

Low pressure (975mb) lies over Northern Scandinavia, with another low
(985mb) close to Northern Scotland. High pressure (1025b) over
Southern Europe, with another high (1025mb) in the mid Atlantic. Winds
across the country are mostly moderate to fresh west/southwesterlies.
Most central and southern areas will be rather cloudy with some rain
with brighter weather following into the north and west. Temperatures
will be close to or just above normal in most parts. Beyond this
conditions are on the unsettled side with showers at times, and
turning somewhat cooler as well.

High pressure (1030mb) lies over Northern Africa, with another high
(1030mb) in the Atlantic ridging north towards Greenland. Winds across
the country are mostly light to moderate southwesterlies. Most parts
will be dry, but rather cloudy, with some rain in the northwest moving
southeast. 850hpa temperatures range from -3C in the northwest to +2C
in the southeast. Forecast 2m temperatures range from between +3C in
Central Scotland and +10C in the south. Beyond this showery conditions
prevail, and it turns colder again from the northwest.

pressure (1030mb) lies to the south of Britain over France. Another
high (1031mb) lies out in the Atlantic. Winds across the UK are mostly
moderate to fresh westerlies. Rain will slowly move southeast followed
by brighter weather in the north. Temperatures will be close to normal
in many areas, but rather mild in the south.

Summary:
A rather unsettled outlook for the Christmas period, with cloud and
rain likely to slowly move southeast across the country. This will
then be followed by brighter and somewhat cooler weather from the
northwest.
