Just shows, in spite of the repeated mildness of recent (since 1989) January's, we've still some way to go to break some long standing records in there! Closer with the February's though, although the two warmer ones are very long standing. The January data from Holland. Up to 1899 it is the so called "Labrijn reeks", after that the data from De Bilt. The range is not homogeneous. Very interesting. Severe months seem to be much colder in Holland than in the UK. It's surprising how much difference 100 or so kilometres of sea can make. Although Oxford seems to have records going back to only 1852, its extreme January means are +7.7 (1916) and -3.0 (1963). In the latter case, the mean maximum was -0.2 and mean min -5.8.
